korea days 1 - 4

Hey there fans and lovers! So I figured this was a good time to start a blog since I am in the midst of my epic journey in South Korea! The travel time was long and I watched 3 movies on the international flight, 1 good, 1 ok, and 1 really horribly bad; but I made it. Here is what's been happening thus far.

(Day 1) Saturday, June 16th

Robyn and me on my first day, at "The Lounge" where ladies drink free for a $5 cover. So, jetlagged and dragging I rallied for a long night of drinking, dancing, and a little debauchery.

Finishing Robyn's gin and tonic to go to Morgan's boyfriend's (from Quebec) last concert in Korea.

In the cab on the way to the Hyatt in Itaewon!

The best cover band I've ever seen!! And honestly one of the best concerts I've been to. Small, dark, and intimate, but with a band pouring out energy, charisma, and good songs.

After the concert, we discover a guy passed out in the grass!!

.....naturally everyone needed to take a picture with him...

Cake and grape to the ear...

After in a bar with swings and sand!

"The Egg Lady" yummy

Finally to bed... but not before checking out mama and baby mac

(Day Two) Sunday, June 17th

Sunday we went to Insadong. They close down the street Sunday so people are milling around all over. We ate Korean food, looked around an outdoor shopping mall, and chilled at a Tea House where we drank 5 flavor tea (super gross), Quince tea (super yummy), and pine tea (super weird... tasted like Christmas).

(Day Three) Monday, June 18th

Today I went to Robyn's work and saw all of her ridiculously cute kids! They are wild, but extremely smart and extremely hilarious. I was rolling the whole time. I met her co-workers and after we went out with her good friend "Jenny Teacher" for samgyeopsal. This is were you have like a hot plate at the table and you fry up bacon-like meat, kimchee, and garlic, throw on some hot sauce and then wrap it all in a lettuce or seseme leaf and shove it down. It ends up being bigger bites than sushi, but it was mm mmm good.

That evening we went shopping in Myungdong where I found some cool stuff, but even more importantly we went to a sticker booth. These sticker booths are ridiculous. Nothing compares in the states. I love them. After shopping we met up with Jenny, her cousin, and another friend at Wara Wara for drinks. We drank pineapple, strawberry, and kiwi soju. SO delicious.

(Day Four) Tuesday, June 19th

Today was my first day with Robyn going to work and me being on my own. I managed to buy a couple bagels at Dunkin Donuts, and cider and a bag of chips at the corner mart. Admittedly I was a little nervous to go exploring since everything looks kind of the same to me and spent a lot of time catching up on myspace and reading a book. However, that night we went to my first Noraebong! A noraebong is a kareoke room where you can drink, sing, perform, and be merry. There is a stage and then a lower area with couches, pillows, and a laser light show.

All in all a good start to my three weeks here.
